Gaia Music Collective is a creative community currently based in NYC (& hoping to come to a city near you!). This project was born out of a desire to create more spaces for people to find expression, connection, growth, & release through collaborative music-making - a place where folks feel safe to make music free of judgment or expectation, and to make new friends as our weird, vulnerable, beautiful, authentic selves.
First and foremost: whether you're a professional musician, a former choir kid, an avid shower singer, or don't even consider yourself a musician at all - there's a place for you here.
All are welcome in this community, regardless of age, race, gender, class, religion, sexual orientation, ability, national origin, language, or musical ability. All that we ask is that you bring an open mind, a desire to connect, and a willingness to leave judgment of self & others at the door.
We at Gaia believe that music-making - and making that music in community & collaboration with other people - is a fundamental human need, and this project seeks to build space for that in a day and age when it is so often hard to find.
Our events seek to break down the divisions between performer & audience and craft experiences where we are ALL part of the music-making, while also offering a network & platform for local artists & creatives to connect with other artists, activate their creativity through collaboration, and engage their work with other musical minds.
In short - we're here to sing, to play, to grow, to connect, and to have a good time!

CURRENT OFFERINGS:
HOUSE SHOWS ~ magical nights where we gather to sing together, join Gaia's featured artists in making original music, co-create cool cover songs, improvise music out of thin air, build community, connect, and dance into the wee hours
CANDLELIGHT CIRCLE SINGING ~ sessions for singers of all abilities to get in touch with their inner creativity through collaborative ensembleship, playing singing games & exercises that spin melody, harmony, and rhythm out of thin air
ONE-NIGHT CHOIRS ~ sessions where we rehearse and sing a piece of vocal music together for fun, take a video of whatever we end up with, and call it a day!
COLLABORATIVE OPEN MICS ~ a space for folx to share art of all kinds with a warm & welcoming crowd. folx are also encouraged to experiment with audience participation, teaching the audience harmonies or collaborating with other performers
COLLABORATIVE SONGWRITING CIRCLES ~ songwriters of all experience levels gather to write together! together, we play songwriting games, write individually, in pairs, and as a group, and to give and receive feedback on songs in progress
We're also always looking to grow and offer new events to serve this community's needs & desires!
